About Mary Mertz and Mertz Training Stables
Horse and Rider Trainer Specializing in Hunters & Jumpers
In her pre teen years, Mary started riding under the instruction of Debbi Sereni in Los Altos Hills, CA, (coach of the 2003 ASPCA Medal Finals Winner). About 5 years later, a relocation to Colorado introduced Mary to Col. Robby Robertson who was willing to work with her even though her horse had spots. Appaloosa's weren't well recognized in Hunter Jumper shows back then!
She continues to advance her skills and knowledge by taking clinics with people such as Nick Karazissis, Richard Shrake, Monte Roberts, Karen Healey and working with Carol Wright.
Mary Mertz has earned numerous championships in Hunter/Jumper,
Appaloosa and open shows. In 2002, she trained and rode Scarlet Pimpernel to Reserve World Champion in Pre Green Working Hunter and 2003 they earned the ApHC World Championship in Green Hunter, and 6th in Open Working Hunter at the World along with many state championships.
Mary is a Resistance Free™ Certified Instructor/Trainer by Richard Shrake. The Resistance Free method of teaching allows the riding student to gain the greatest possible insight into their horse's minds and their riding ability. Being able to break down each problem into a very solvable situation is what makes this method more successful than other trainer's methods.
